Spring 2008

Letter from the President

Hello, PDA friends,

As we move through the year, I am pleased at the wealth and breadth of information the PDA is providing to its members in our monthly programs. Kim and Mary Jo have lined up a terrific schedule, and we’ve added a couple new, fun incentives on the side. The “Give & Take” table is an opportunity to pass along to others those materials and supplies that are collecting dust in your studio, and perhaps find a few treasures in the things that others bring to the table. And occasionally we’ll surprise you with a door prize drawing. However you look at it, our meetings are a no-lose proposition – you learn something new and you just might get to take home some cool stuff.

One popular idea from our past that we will be resurrecting this year is sales of our PDA recipe book – a compilation of exciting and creative techniques from our members, presented in a 3-ring binder. As new recipes become available, they can be added to the collection. So, I’m extending the invitation to any of you who has an interesting technique to share to please write it up with some good pictures and send it to me to consider for the book.

We now have a new logo! For those who would like to include it on their business cards, the design is simple and won’t overwhelm your own; yet, it is sophisticated, clean, and updated. We will eventually put a download in our members’ section for those who wish to use it, but in the meantime, contact me for the file. We will also be revamping our web site to incorporate this new look and feel, and we are targeting that to happen by the end of the summer.

With summer vacations fast approaching, I know your schedules will be just as booked as ever, but I hope that you will mark your calendars for our meetings so you won’t miss any of the fun and valuable experiences ahead.

My regards,

Sandy Bruce, President

Referrals

Congratulations to Susan Newberry who won a free 2008 membership for bringing in the most members last year.  If you need referral cards for this year, see Ivone Hughes, and be sure to let her know when you’re bringing in a new potential member. Remember the person who brings in the most guests for 2008 will receive a free 2009 membership!

Artist's Directory

As part of our focus on "The Business of Faux", we are offering you an exciting new benefit to your PDA membership: the online Artists' Directory. This listing of the talented artists and artisans of the Peachtree Decorative Artists Guild will be optimized for search engines to bring you those prospective clients in the market for what we do.  If you would like to be listed in the directory, please email your information to sunewberry@aol.com.  We suggest that you limit your wording to between 50 and 100 words.  Be sure to include any contact information - telephone number and website.  The only requirement is that your dues are current.

Field Trips Planned This Year

Education, as well as fun, has always been a huge focus for our guild. In keeping with our traditions, we decided to combine the two together and organize a few field trips for PDA. The thought behind it, is that so many of us go to designer show houses to admire each other's work, well why not just organize a day when we can all get together and enjoy in unison.

Looking ahead

When: Saturday, July 26, 10 am - 4 pm. (9:30 for meet and greet)
Where: Spruill Center

Trompe L'oeil

Guest instructor: Tracy Lindsay

Our Old Meeting Place

North Dekalb Cultural Center, formerly Spruill Art Center

They have been so very generous in allowing us to use a classroom for all our meetings and for FREE no less!!! Each and every one of us has benefited by this in no small way.

Possible New Meeting Places

As you know PDA is growing and already is in need a larger meeting space. Several of you were generous enough to volunteer your time to call other facilities that could accommodate our large and growing organization. Please e-mail your findings to our Programs Director at info@pdartists.org. Thank you!
