Trompe L'oeil

with Tracy Lindsey

Saturday, July 26 at the Spruill Center

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

We will complete a trompe l’oeil panel of molding on a color wash background.  Tracy will discuss the basic elements of trompe l’oeil to get you started.  It's all about light and shade, the trick to fool the eye.

Supply List:

Striping Edge (Liner stick) - available @ The Finishing Source   (Limited supply- please call ahead)

Lining brushes (various sizes)  1/4 inch angle (white synthetic hair)   Windsor Newton-cotman

                                                  #4 Flat (white synthetic hair)

Chip brushes -  1˝ inch

Pencils

Basic supply kit 

Workshop:  (Total instruction time available is 5 hours) 

  1. Color wash sample board  (15 minutes)

  2. Into lecture to trompe o iel  (30 minutes)

  3. Draw out molding dried color wash sample  (30 minutes)

  4. Draw profile of molding on tape  (30 minutes)

  5. Lunch (45 minutes)

  6. Lecture of light and shade  (45 minutes)

  7. Demo ˝ of sample for shadow (15 minutes)

  8. Students paint ˝ of sample in shadow (15 minutes)

  9. Demo other ˝ of sample for shadow (15 minutes)

  10. Students paint other ˝ of sample for shadow (15 minutes)

  11. Demo ˝ of sample for highlight (15 minutes)

  12. Students paint ˝ of sample for highlight (15 minutes)

  13.  Demo other ˝ of sample for highlight (15 minutes)

  14. Students paint other ˝ of sample for highlight (15 minutes)

  15. Sample is complete (30 minutes)

  16. Clean up begins at 4:15 p.m.
